What is recorded here

Cairn stands on a limestone reef above marshy grazing land in County Kerry, facing the Paps mountains and the vanished ringfort of Rathanny. Briars and white-thorn have swallowed the low stone mound, hiding a place where people once marked the edge of the sky. It is not grand, but it is still watching.

'This complex is situated on top of a limestone reef which affords extensive views to the north, east, south and west, the Paps mountains being visible to the east. The field in which this site is located is slightly marshy, and is predominantly devoted to grazing and rough pasture. The large bi-vallate ringfort of Rathanny [KE030-032----] is located c.150m to the north, but is now almost completely levelled as a result of field clearance. The interior of the enclosure is now overgrown with briars, scrub and white-thorn bushes. A scatter of loose stone is evident throughout the overgrowth, partially overgrown. A large low cairn also occurs on top of this reef underneath the undergrowth. This measures 12.0m N-S by 10.0m E-W and has a maximum height of 1.00m at south.'
