What is recorded here
Cairn is a shallow, grassy hummock on the summit ridge of Tallaght Hill where three townland boundaries still meet. It is eighteen metres across and three metres high, though a forest road, drainage channel and shooting hide have cut through or sat upon it since people stopped treating it as a boundary marker. The stones that once formed its upper edge are gone, probably carried away for field walls or local construction. Coming from the northeast shows the least damaged profile, but the southwestern side has been absorbed into plantation forestry. The cairn no longer commands attention, yet it still occupies the exact geographical role given to it thousands of years ago: a fixed point where three lands touch.
This was a cairn of stones (diam. 12m) which was removed in the 1960s. It was located on what is reclaimed pasture which falls SE to the Glencullen River Valley (Healy 1975, 1-19). There are no visible remains of this cairn.
