What is recorded here
Carnglass rises in Carnglass Beg, County Antrim, as a prehistoric cairn where ancient hands may have stacked stone to mark the sky or remember the dead. The beg gives the cairn a lonely, exposed character, while the cairn gives the beg a purpose older than written history. Together they suggest a place where people still valued visibility, memory and the endurance of stone.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CAIRN: CARNGLASS. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Neolithic passage tomb; dates to the early to middle Neolithic period (c. 3700–3000 BCE). It is significant as part of a broader network of passage tombs in Northern Ireland, reflecting early ritual and burial practices.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
