Burnt spread in Castlequin

Topsoil stripping in advance of a housing development revealed a portion of a spread (13m E-W; 7.3m N-S; D 0.5m) of burnt material. It was apparent that the burnt material extended to the N and E into undisturbed soil beyond the stripped area. A line (L c. 1m) of stones set on edge was noted on the N side of the spread. The burnt spread was subsequently covered with a porous membrane, drainage stones and sods and was excluded from any further development works.
