Burnt spread in Ballymanagh

This site is exposed in section on the S shoreline of Valencia Island, c. 500m W of Reenaloughan Point. It survives as a thin lens of burnt stones and charcoal, and has been interpreted as the remains of fulacht fiadh by Mitchell (1989, 87). A charcoal sample from the feature yielded a radicarbon determination of 2970±90 BP. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
