Burnt spread in Ballyglass Middle

Burnt spread

What is recorded here

In flat, rush-grown boggy pasture, located at the base of a steep SW-facing ridge slope. A surface spread (c. 8m E–W; c. 5-6m N–S) of shattered stone in charcoal rich soil was visible here in 1999, with a second burnt spread (MA103-078001-) 5m to NNW. The nature of these remains is uncertain. One possibility is that the two spreads are part of a single levelled burnt mound with overall dimensions of c. 15m. A burnt mound (MA103-077----) is located c. 20m to NW and another burnt mound (MA103-079----) is incorporated into a field fence c. 15 to N.
