Burnt pit in Monadreela

Uncovered during archaeological excavation of the N8 Cashel bypass. Decribed by the excavator as a 'Modern burnt mound. Thought to be fill of possible pit [an irregular feature Wth 2.2m; D 0.1m]. Subsoil, which had been subjected to high temperatures. Flecks of charcoal and small burnt stones mixed with dark grey clay silt', and also that 'close inspection of the material suggests that it was relatively modern, the result of the natural ground being subject to high temperatures, possibly a hedge fire above it' (O'Flanagan, N., 2003, 3-6).
