Burnt mound in Lissardboola

Burnt mound

What is recorded here

'In the adjoining field on the north western side of the above site [KE038-109----] is a large kidney-shaped mound which measures 10.0m E-W by 9.00m N-S. This mound appears to be stone-filled and is now covered in a growth of grass and reeds. It has a maximum height of 0.60m, and a possible, though very denuded trough area, 3.00m by 3.00m, opening to the north. Again, as in the previous example [KE038-109----] the soil has a black burnt appearance.' Compiled by Michael Connolly for the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as part of a survey of the Lee Valley area in 1996-97. Date of upload: 03 May 2012
