What is recorded here
Mounds like this scattered along water everywhere in Ireland, built by repeated heating of stone and dumping of the rubble. They mark places where people gathered often enough to make that repeated heat visible in the ground. The flat damp pasture and the nearby mound suggest a busy local landscape rather than a single isolated event.
In an expanse of flat, damp pasture bordering the N bank of the Fiddaunglass stream.
Evident in 1996 as a surface spread (Diam. c. 5m) of angular stone in black charcoal-rich soil, exposed from beneath a covering layer of peaty soil. It was impossible to determine full limits of the spread. It is one of a linear cluster of fulachaí fia/burnt mounds located along the course of the stream, one of which (MA038-189----) is 25m to SSE.
