Burnt mound in Cloonacurry

In an expanse of damp, rush-grown pasture, bordering the SE shore of Cloonacurry Lough. To S there is a gradual rise in ground level, and the N– NE side of the lake is bordered by a low ridge. The field was converted to forestry in 2015. Slight remnants of a burnt mound were noted in March 2015 in and around a forestry trench at approximately this location (pers. comm. Michael Cox, consultant archaeologist). According to local information, the burnt mound was levelled during land reclamation works undertaken in the 1980’s.
