Burnt mound in Ballylane East

Located towards the bottom of a S-facing slope with a small NW-SE stream c. 30m to the E. This is an oval area of burnt and cracked stones and black earth (dims. 13m x 7m) visible when the area is ploughed. It can be seen on Google Earth images (2009). Burnt mound in Ballylane East is a fulacht fia, dating to the Early to Middle Bronze Age (c. 2000–1200 BCE). These sites were likely used for cooking or industrial processes and are significant as widespread and enigmatic features of the Irish landscape.
