Burnt mound in Ballingowan (trughanacmy By.)

'Situated in a large reclaimed field immediately to the east of a small tributary of the River Lee, which was deep ploughed in 1997, are a series of low stone-filled mounds. Boulder clay is obvious where the top of the mound has been denuded, this probably being the result of the sod being turned. Some evidence of burnt stone is apparent.....[the] mound occurs to the north of the previous example [KE029-306----], measuring 7.00m N-S by 7.00m E-W and is 0.25m in height. A trough area opens to the west, measuring 3.00m N-S by 1.00m E-W and is 0.40m below the crest of the mound. Again boulder clay is in evidence on the disturbed top of the mound, showing that deep ploughing was carried out on this field.'
