Slanecastle Demesne holds buried bodies inside the nave of St. Erc's Hermitage rather than in a separate graveyard. That much is clear from the excavation at the east end. Whether those were hermits, travellers or forgotten locals still lacks proof. The chamber itself, however, is no longer empty. It has been holding them since before the castle took its name.

In the nave of St. Erc's Hermitage (ME019-026----). Archaeological excavation (95E0024) at the E end of the nave uncovered disarticulated burials (Channing 1995, 14-6), but there is no formal enclosed graveyard associated with the church. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 15 July, 2014
