Burial in Knocknagroagh,kyletalesha

Burial

What is recorded here

Knocknagroagh and Kyletalesha share a buried life hidden beneath the River Triogue. In October 2000 dredging brought up portions of a human skull, prompting Dr John Harbison to investigate before the Museum learned of the discovery. Mary Cahill visited later to find the site heavily disturbed, closing the chance for further recovery. The river kept its secret longer than anyone intended.
The files of the National Museum of Ireland records that in October 2000 portions of a human skull were discovered in dredged material from the river Triogue which is the boundary between the townlands of Kyletalesha and Knocknagroagh, Co. Laois (Cahill & Sikora 2011, Vol. 2, 490). The site was investigated by the State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, and the Museum was not informed until after this time. A site visit was then carried out by Mary Cahill. Unfortunately the site had been heavily disturbed at this stage, and no further remains were recovered (NMI File).
