Burial in Kilfeacle

Burial

What is recorded here

While ploughing over an 'old moat' ringfort (LA025-033001-), a number of flat stones, set on edge, were found c. 0.3m below the ground surface. Two larger stones which may have been cover-stones were also found; one was inscribed with a Maltese cross (LA025-033003-), the other at E end of the grave was found to cover portions of a human skull. The stone-lined grave suggests that the burial was late medieval (JRSAI 1932, 119-20). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007
