Gorteen in County Kildare holds at least four human skulls, possibly more, buried beneath a low hill. In September 2010 a bulldozer cut through the top soil and exposed the bones, forcing the machine operator to stop and call the National Museum of Ireland. The dead had waited centuries beneath that quiet mound before steel and chance brought them back into human knowledge.

In September 2010, the National Museum of Ireland were informed of the accidental discovery of burial remains. A subsequent inspection determined that during the bulldozing of the top of a low hill, the machine operator noticed bones in the disturbed soil and informed the authorities.
