Burial in Coolgrange (crannagh By.)

Burial

What is recorded here

Coolgrange in County Kilkenny holds a female skeleton buried east-west in gravel, waiting beneath an ordinary ridge. Quarrying broke the silence in 1988, dragging her upper half into light after centuries of darkness. She may have been a mother, a traveller or a forgotten neighbour, but the gravel kept her long enough for memory to return.
In gravel on a low E–W ridge. The incomplete upper half of the skeleton of an adult female in an unlined grave aligned E-W was found in 1988 during quarrying. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, vol. 2, 351-4) Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 11 February 2013
