Burial in Ballybrassil

Burial

What is recorded here

Redington still stands beside the buried place, preserving the shape of the loss even when the markers disappeared. The grave may have held a child, a traveller or a family member whose name never reached writing. Forgetting did not erase the event; it returned the person to soil, silence and the continuing life of the field.
Coleman (1894, 35) refers to a grave found near Redington. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
