What is recorded here
Abbey West holds a ghost story rather than a grave. People claimed Battle of Corcomroe victims lay buried thirty metres from the abbey, but inspection found no trace of death. The land keeps its secrets plain, refusing drama even when memory wants to invent it.
Possible burials from the Battle of Corcomroe were reported in Abbey West townland c. 300m ENE of the abbey (CL003-029002-) (pers. Comm. Tim Robinson, SMR file). On inspection in 1999 no evidence of burial was found at this location.
