Burial Ground (Site of)

Graveyard

What is recorded here

South-facing pasture holds a low mound where Bregoge's parish church and burial ground disappeared beneath grass and forgetting. The 1937 map still names the lost site, preserving what foottraffic and time erased. Dead people may lie beneath the slope, their graves levelled into ordinary ground.
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Site marked only on 1937 OS 6-inch map, as Burial Ground (site of). No visible remains of graveyard except low mound, probably site of church (14454), possibly parish church of Bregoge. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
