What is recorded here

Mutton's Field is a sports ground in County Cork, but the buried dead are the reason it exists. Children chase balls across grass that covers forgotten graves, while the children's laughter drowns the silence of the dead below. The field is not empty; it is layered, with life playing above memory and motion hiding what burial once kept still.
Shown as 'Burial Ground (site of)' on 1902 and 1935 OS 6-inch maps only. No visible surface trace. Area in use as sports field. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
