What is recorded here

An unknown grave monument once stood in Ballinwillin, recorded by Power in 1940 but never precisely located. The entry preserves only that a burial mark existed, leaving the dead person, date and shape of the stone forgotten. What is certain is that the place was set apart for death and memory before the details were lost.
Power (1940, 22) refers to 'An Leacht (grave monument)' in this townland. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
