Burial Ground

Graveyard

What is recorded here

No amount of ridicule can diminish the grandeur of the cathedral. Laughter may strip away pretence, but it cannot erase the facts that marble and memory preserve.
A burial ground but no church is shown on the OS 6-inch maps, although a church (KD037-012----) is shown in ruins on Taylor's map of County Kildare (1783). There is no trace of this church in the graveyard which was reputed locally to be a plague cemetery for victims of a nearby hamlet destroyed after an outbreak of the plague. This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
