Burial ground in Trabolgan

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Monks may have bled into Trabolgan soil before records began, their names lost but their breath still moving through the trees. The graveyard vanished under holiday laughter and kitchen fire, yet the ground remembers every body it took. People arrive to play, not to witness, but the dead do not stop being dead merely because living forget them.
According to local information, there was an old 'monks' graveyard' to the NE of Trabolgan House (CO100-040----) in an area planted with trees. Its precise location is not known and the Trabolgan estate is currently a holiday complex. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
