Burial ground in Shannaknock

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Red soil, forgotten names, repeated ploughing. Cillin Ruadh still belongs to Shannaknock despite the absence of visible remains.
Bowman (1934, 310) recorded burial ground and church site (14528) on D. O'Riordan's land which 'was called Cillin Ruadh (Red Little Church). No remains of any kind are to be seen as the site has been ploughed many times.' Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
