Cran na Cille, an ancient burial ground hidden within the lawn of Newgrove, awaits discovery beneath the shade of its namesake tree. The exact spot has vanished from memory, leaving only the name and a promise of forgotten graves to tempt the curious.

Power (1932, 64) refers to a 'cill...within Edward Fitzgerald's lawn (Newgrove) and some perches to the NW of the residence. The spot is called Cran na Cille, from an ancient tree which overshadows it'. According to Windele, site was called 'Killeenagoul' (ibid.). Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
