What is recorded here
Kilcloney is a quiet townland in County Carlow where a burial ground once stood. An 1839 map marked the site of the grave yard, but no visible trace remains there now. The dead may have been laid to rest beneath fields that have since changed, their names lost while the land continues to breathe above them.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007
Marked 'Site of Grave Yard' on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map. No visible surface traces.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
