Gortroe hides a burial ground inside its rath, according to local tradition. The earth may still hold forgotten bodies beneath the grass, waiting for rain or memory to reveal them.

There is a local tradition of a burial ground in the interior of the rath (CO134-062----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
