Burial ground in Dromdowney Lower

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Sunday's Well still flows beside the boggy slope where buried people and a lost church belong. The land keeps its own shape in shallow ridges, refusing to be forgotten or measured. What is missing has not stopped arriving: water, memory, and the patience of dead soil.
In boggy area, on gentle S-facing slope, just N of Sunday's Well (13977). According to local information, site of burial ground and church (14475). Many low undulations may indicate area of site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
