What is recorded here

Kilpatrick fort in Curraghs, County Cork, contained a burial ground where six rough stones projected six inches above ground to mark graves. The fort is now almost levelled, erasing the visible trace of those markers and the church beside them. Local memory pushes the sacred site ninety metres east into another levelled ringfort, suggesting the true dead and prayers may still sleep beneath the wrong grass.

Bowman (1934, 384) recorded burial ground and church site (14473) inside Kilpatrick fort (12402). He noted that 'six rough stones, projecting about 6 ins over ground mark the sites of graves' (ibid.). Fort almost levelled; no visible surface trace of burial markers evident. Locally believed that church and burial ground were not here but in levelled ringfort (12403) c. 90m to E.
