What is recorded here
Kyle is an unmarked rectangular burial ground for unbaptised children on a steep north-facing slope in Ballynamuddagh. The field is still ploughed, yet the owner claims nothing has ever appeared, suggesting the children remain hidden beneath ordinary pasture rather than lost to time.
In pasture, on steep N-facing slope. Unenclosed rectangular area (c. 28m x c. 18m) in SE corner of field, known locally as 'Kyle', a burial place for unbaptised children. No grave markers noted; field ploughed regularly and according to landowner, nothing was ever found.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
