Bullaun stones are ancient prayer rocks where faithful people rubbed their bodies in suffering or devotion. In Rathbaun, a large irregular boulder with two shallow hollows lay hidden at an enclosure until Land Project work revealed it. A priest later carried the stone about five hundred metres west into the grounds of Rathduff Roman Catholic church, giving its worn cups a public address and a continued life of memory.

At an enclosure (MA039-043002-). This records the original location of a bullaun stone which was found at an unknown date during Land Project work (NMI topographical finds). According to local information, it was removed by a priest to its present location (MA039-043003-) in the grounds of Rathduff Roman Catholic church, c. 500m to W. It consists of an irregular-shaped boulder (L 1.5m; Wth 1m; H 0.85m) on flat upper surface of which there are two close-set, shallow hollows. One hollow is circular (diam. 0.33m) in plan, and the other oval (0.43m; 0.36m), each c. 0.08-0.1m depth. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 5 February 2020
