What is recorded here
Enclosure in Rathbaun (tirawley By., Kilbelfad Par.) stood on a Mayo hilltop until the 1930s, when the oval earthwork vanished from human sight. A hollowed stone taken from that forgotten place still sits beside Rathduff church, preserving the shape of what the field swallowed.
In pasture, located on the top of a hill. This enclosure is not shown on the 1838. It is shown on the 25-inch plan as a hachured oval area (44m N–S; 35m E–W) which straddles the contours of the hill. By the time of the 1930 OS 6-inch map, it appears to have been levelled, and it is not shown on that edition. There is no visible trace at ground level. A bullaun stone (MA039-043001-) was found here, but was moved to its present location (MA039-043003-) at Rathduff church.
