What is recorded here

Kilrainy holds a vanished bullaun stone near an old church and graveyard, remembered only through a 1985 note and the absence found during a later visit. That gap makes the place richer, not poorer, because the stone may have been buried, moved, broken or simply stopped being seen. The pasture slope keeps the shape of human attention even when the stone itself refuses to show.

On a gentle E-facing pasture slope, c. 50m to the NE of a possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (KD003-002001-) which contains a church (KD003-002002-) and a graveyard (KD003-002003-). A bullaun stone was noted here in 1985 (SMR file), but was not located on the current visit. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011

Probably dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as a site of pilgrimage. Its location near an ecclesiastical enclosure suggests a possible liturgical or symbolic connection to the nearby church and graveyard.
