Bullaun stones in Ireland are sacred stones associated with saints, often marked by a hollow worn from prayer or ritual. In Kilfadeen, the stone sits beside a childrens’ burial ground, a pairing that suggests devotion, loss and remembrance woven together. Its deep central hollow may have formed through generations of touching, pouring water or praying, turning rock into a vessel for human longing.
On N side of field fence just S of childrens' burial ground (CO142-015---). Small, square stone (0.58m x 0.55m; H 0.4m). Large deep circular hollow (diam. 0.35m) is centrally located.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Likely dating to the early Christian or later prehistoric period, the Bullaun stone in Kilfadeen was probably used for ritual or symbolic purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as a site for offerings. Its location near a children's burial ground may suggest a connection to local funerary or protective traditions.
