Bullaun stone in Ballynoe (condons and Clongibbon By.)

Stone, with centrally placed hollow (diam. c. 0.17m; D c. 0.06m), built into internal wall face of old cowshed c. 0.2m above floor level. Much of stone obscured by rubbish. Early ecclesiastical site (13875) c. 140m to SSW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Probably dating to the early medieval period, the bullaun stone may have had a ritual or ecclesiastical function, possibly used for hollowing out patens or as a holy water font. Its location near an early ecclesiastical site suggests a possible Christian association.
