Buckswood blue plaque

This blue commemorative plaque records: Buckswood in early Roman Britain was an iron-working site; in the middle ages a hunting area. A farmstead existed here c. 1495, when the oldest part of this cottage was built. It was enlarged twice, c. 1520-30 and 1575-80. Little Buckswood farm was built on in 1964 with the growth of Crawley New Town Recorded plaque organisation: Crawley Arts Council.

Buckswood has historical significance as an early Roman iron-working site and later as a medieval hunting area; its continuous occupation is evidenced by a cottage dating back to around 1495, which saw expansions in the 16th century, and the development of Little Buckswood farm in the modern era with the expansion of Crawley New Town.
