Detached three-bay (three-bay deep) two-storey house, extant 1821, on a rectangular plan. Vacant, 2002. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, roughcast red brick Running bond chimney stacks on axis with ridge having stringcourses below capping supporting terracotta or yellow terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on timber eaves boards on roughcast eaves with cast-iron downpipes. Ivy-covered roughcast walls. Segmental-headed central door opening with step threshold, and block-and-start surround centred on keystone framing timber panelled door having overlight. Square-headed window openings with sills, and concealed dressings framing two-over-two timber sash windows. Set in overgrown grounds perpendicular to street with rendered panelled piers to perimeter having ball finial-topped capping supporting arrow head-detailed cast-iron gate.
A house representing an important component of the domestic built heritage of Maynooth with the architectural value of the composition confirmed by such attributes as the deliberate alignment maximising on scenic vistas overlooking the Lyreen River with Maynooth Castle as a dramatic backdrop [SMR KD005-015----]; the compact rectilinear plan form centred on a restrained doorcase; and the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression. A prolonged period of neglect notwithstanding, the form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding much of the character or integrity of a house making a pleasing, if increasingly forlorn visual statement in Main Street.
