Rustic Bridge 1 spans a narrow channel inside the private policies of Buchanan Castle in Stirling. Built during the nineteenth century as an ornamental feature rather than a working crossing, it invites people to imagine a world where even a small stream deserves a bridge beautiful enough to watch. The castle keeps its own counsel beside the water, while the bridge does what ornamental things do: it makes the ordinary visible.
