Broughty Castle, Broughty Ferry

Broughty Castle is a squat stone tower at the mouth of the River Tay, rebuilt in the 1860s as a coastal artillery fort and still standing where the first Lord Gray controlled the estuary crossing around 1490. Its rooms now hold Dundee’s whaling and sealing collections, telling how the city sent fleets into polar seas and became one of the world’s great whaling ports before the trade collapsed. The rooftop looks across the Tay to Fife and the Dundee skyline, while seals often surface on the foreshore below the rocks.
