Bridge in Ennisnag,cotterellsbooly,lawcus

A bridge indicated and annotated, 'a Bridg', on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Shillelogher, County Kilkenny (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). It is shown crossing the Kings River below Ennisnag Castle (KK027-018----). The present Ennisnag Bridge is a 19th-century three-arch limestone bridge (https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/12316005/ennisnag-bridge-ennisnag-co-kilkenny). The segmental arches have ashlar voussoirs and the keystone of the central arch bears the date 1827 (ibid.). The bridge on the Down Survey, which is at least 17th-century in date, if not older, was possibly located slightly further downstream to the W, though its precise location is unknown.
