Three-span masonry and steel rail-over-road-and-river bridge, erected c. 1870. Spanning north-south with two central piers. Painted wrought-iron girders carrying track deck, bracketted cantilevered flanking maintenance walkways, steel post and wire balustrades c.1980. Coursed rock-faced ashlar limestone walling, slightly battered piers with corbelled caps, buttressed embankment retaining walls with pedestal caps to buttresses. Remains of earlier rubble limestone road bridge to immediate east with semi-circular arched openings over river. Spans road to Strandhill.

The bridge piers and retaining walls exhibit good quality stonework. The use of wrought-iron girder construction, in lieu of masonry arches, marks technical advance in railway engineering.
