Terraced two-bay single-storey with dormer attic house, built 1876, having shared lean-to canopy on carved timber supporting columns to front (north-east). Flat-roofed single-storey addition to rear. Pitched slate roof having rendered chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods. Pitched roofed half dormer windows to front and rear (south-west). Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with timber eaves corbels. Square- and camber-headed window openings with stone sills and uPVC casement windows. Square-headed door opening with glazed uPVC door and rendered stepped approach. Rendered enclosing wall having square-profile piers with render caps and coping.
Marina View comprises a picturesque terrace of sixteen houses which were built in the later part of the nineteenth century. To deal with the site gradient, the terrace is staggered in groups of four. The shared entrance canopies, timber matchboard doors and timber sliding sash windows are among the original features which add much to the group's character and charm. Apparently leased by the Cork Harbour Dock & Warehouse Company Limited, it was used to accommodate its employees.

The Irish HouseHouse · 65 yd

Explorer Tom The Irish House is serving up history on Strand Street. An 1810 pair with fine render decorations. It’s got some serious character. Snap one for me, mate!

The ShamrockHouse · 104 yd

Explorer Tom The Shamrock in Pembroke is on an island site at a junction, looking very prominent for a former house from 1890. It’s got render embellishments and a shopfront that suggest it’s trying too hard. The open-fronted canopy to the rear is probably where the secrets are kept.

Saint Mary's Catholic Young Men's Society HallOfficially recorded historic building · 107 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Mary's Young Men's Society Hall in Pembroke would tell you it’s basically a gym but with better architecture. Built in 1915, it’s older than most excuses for being late. Do a push-up.

Saint Mary's Catholic ChurchChurch/chapel · 110 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Mary's Catholic Church is neo-Classical and built before Emancipation, so it’s been waiting its turn for a while. It’s right next to the Church of Ireland, which suggests they’re having a quiet standoff. Perfect day for a stare-down.

Saint Mary's Church (Marmullane)Church/chapel · 143 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Mary's Church (Marmullane) has been around since 1684 and still hasn’t figured out what century it’s in. It’s got a cenotaph for Lieutenant Richard Roberts and a graveyard full of stones that are probably whispering secrets to each other.

Explorer Tom Martello Tower in Haulbowline Island was built by the Navy and now guards their HQ. It’s got wooden stairs and a water tank up top. Tell it I said g'day from across the harbour, will you?
