What is recorded here
That is a boundary mound in Drumnafinnila Barr, County Leitrim, Ireland. It sits on a broad east-west ridge and once separated County Leitrim from County Cavan. The Ordinance Survey built it, but time and people have taken most of its stones. What remains is a small ridge of earth and memory, marking a line that no longer needs a mound to be believed.
Situated on a broad E-W ridge. It is marked only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as a 'Mound' marking the boundary with County Cavan. This is one of about six cairns or mounds in this area erected by the Ordinance Survey, and very few of them are left. It is the same as (CV005-010----).
A Neolithic boundary cairn, likely dating to the early first millennium BCE. Its significance lies in its role as a territorial marker between ancient territories, reflecting early land division practices in the region.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
