What is recorded here
Lackdotia once held a four-ton chamber stone propped above ground by five or six wedge stones, visible in the boundary fence between James Kelliher's and Batt Moynihan's land. The fence had only recently been built around it, as if the neighbourhood had learned to go past the burial instead of pretending it was not there. It has since disappeared from the field, perhaps swallowed by soil or carried away when the boundary changed. What remains is the shape of its absence: a heavy stone, a narrow gap, and the lives that lived beside it before forgetting began.
Broker (1937, 23) recorded 'an earth-fast dolmen' in the boundary fence between James Kelliher's and Batt Moynihan's land, noting that the field boundary had only been recently built around it. The monument was described as consisting of a top stone weighing '4 or 5 tons' [c. 4000-5000kg] and had five or six supporting stones which were used as wedges to keep one side of the top above the ground (ibid.). Despite local enquiries and an extensive search this possible boulder burial remains unlocated. This may be one of the three unlocated boulder-burials (6501, vol. 3) in Mushera townland, which shares Lackdotia's SE boundary.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).

Boulder-burial in Lackdotia is a megalithic tomb, likely dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age. Its classification as an "earth-fast dolmen" suggests a significant, though now partially obscured, prehistoric funerary structure.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
