Half-buried in a Westmeath pasture, Boardstown Castle still stands as a broken tower house, its north wall rising five metres above the grass while the rest has surrendered to rubble. John L'Estrange lived there in 1732, proving the stones could still hold a life, and later builders attached a Georgian house directly to its south side. Even decayed, the castle feeds the neighbouring farm, sending quoin stones and window fragments into a local outhouse.
