This blue commemorative plaque records: Beryl Burton OBE Was a cycling phenomenon. Born in Halton, Leeds and living in Morley for much of her married life, she became 3000 metre Track Pursuit World Champion in 1959 (the first of five victories). She was Road Racing World Champion twice and every year from 1959 to 1983 British Time Trials Best All Rounder. 1937 - 1996 Recorded plaque organisation: Leeds Civic Trust.
Beryl Burton OBE was a pioneering British cyclist, renowned for her dominance in time trials and track cycling, holding the record as the five-time World Champion in the 3000 metre Track Pursuit and twice winning the Road Racing World Championship. Her consistent performance from 1959 to 1983 as Britain's best all-rounder cemented her legacy as one of the greatest female cyclists in history.
