St Modan's Church in Benderloch is associated with St Modan, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary linked to several holy sites in Scotland. Local tradition holds that St Modan performed miracles and founded churches, and holy wells near such sites were often believed to have curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin.
