Battered stone walls and projecting gun positions still mark the star-shaped battery built above the Belleek bridge after the 1798 rebellion. The fort guarded vital roads and later hosted several forces during the border fighting of the early 1920s, blending military purpose into the rhythm of the town. Part of the old barracks has joined a private home, turning a weaponised landscape into an inhabited one where the edge of danger has softened into domestic life.

The official built-heritage record describes battered stone walls, projecting gun positions, firing holes and part of the old barracks. The battery guarded the important Belleek bridge and roads after the 1798 rebellion. It was occupied by several forces during the fighting around the border in the early 1920s and is now partly joined to a private home.
