Tetunny Well

Described in 1946 as 'This is a hollow in a shelf of rock, filled by a small spring. It is on the south bank of the river, in the gorge above Cliff House, and close to Tetunny Graveyard (DG107-073001-). It is seldom visited now, but on the occasion of our visit there were a few strips of cloth tied to the bushes about the well, tokens of "rounds" paid there. The well is dedicated to St. Brighid. All the surroundings are entirely natural; there is no masonry or any artificial object there. The well is about twelve feet over the present level of the river; thus it will be completely covered by the new water level' (Corlett 2006, 67).

Tetunny Well is associated with local Christian tradition and may have been a site of pilgrimage or prayer, given its proximity to Tetunny Graveyard. Holy wells in such locations were often linked to saints or used for healing rituals, though specific cures or patron saints connected to this well are not recorded.
